Leading world professional bicycle racers, Olympic Games prizewinners, World Championships winners, such as Alexander Vinokurov from Kazakhstan, Vyacheslav Yekimov from Russia, Makgie Bredly John from Australia and Paolo Savoldelli from Italy took part in the competition.
We are grateful that you accepted our invitation to take part in this competition after such important contest as world championship, the President said, addressing the sportsmen. We pay much attention to the development of various kinds of sport in Kazakhstan, including cycling which is popular among Kazakhstani youth.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that a cycle track of high standard will be built soon in Astana where country’s best sportsmen will be coached.
The famous bicycle racers shared their impressions of Kazakhstan and its new capital Astana.
Frankly speaking, I would like to see with my own eyes what I had heard from the others. I knew that Kazakhstan’s capital is a young developing city, but when I arrived here I was surprised. Astana is a modern and dynamic city. It has a positive aura that makes life and work easier, Vyacheslav Yekimov said.
During my short stay in your country I found many common features with my country. We both have small population and vast territory. Besides, there are many popular sportsmen in our countries, Makgie Bredly John emphasized. I hope that today’s competition will become international and join the list of regular international contests.
I was very much impressed with what I had seen here in Astana. I have not seen anything like this before. I am confident that this country with its huge natural and human resources will be further developing, Paolo Savoldelli noted.
