Issues of developing relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union in the areas of economy, energy and regional policy were discussed during the meeting.
Kazakhstan is the largest trade and investment partner to the EU in Central Asia. The volume of mutual trade was at 12.5 billion dollars over the first half of 2007. EU countries make a significant share of the Kazakhstani export. The EU has invested more than 35 billion dollars in Kazakhstan’s economy over the cooperation years.
”We have had a fruitful meeting with the President. We have discussed a number of issues of regional policy, situation in Afghanistan, Iran. We have also exchanged views on the new EU Strategy for Central Asia, which was adopted early this year. Kazakhstan plays an important role in the implementation of this Strategy. The European Union intends to continue its close cooperation with your country,” Javier Solana said at a press briefing.
