Kazakhstan President holds negotiations with the President of the European Commission

Bilateral talks with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen concluded Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Brussels.

During the meeting that took place in a warm and confidential atmosphere, the two sides thoroughly discussed the state and prospects of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.

The agenda of the talks also included issues related to post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, and the development of cooperation in the transport, logistics and humanitarian spheres, as well as the global and regional security issues.

President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s readiness to create all the necessary conditions and provide tailor-made toolkits for European investors interested in entering the Kazakhstan market.

The European Union is the largest trade and investment partner of Kazakhstan in Central Asia.

The 75% of foreign investments in Central Asia accounts to the economy of Kazakhstan.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ursula von der Leyen expressed a mutual desire to find new points of interaction in areas as the green economy, sustainable energy and mining, agribusiness, IT technologies, transit and transport, finance, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education and tourism.

The President of the European Commission commended the political and economic reforms in Kazakhstan, reaffirming the commitment of the European Union to further strengthening trade, economic and investment cooperation with Kazakhstan. She also expressed support for Kazakhstan’s approach on stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan and the measures taken to provide humanitarian assistance to this country.

In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited Ursula von der Leyen to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.
